The Imagination Project by Authentic Collectables is an idea born out of creativity and a desire to produce a range of cool cars with no limits.
‘What if’ is the main question that drives this project. What if a designer had absolutely free range to create a racing livery without any restrictions? What if a driver could decide how their car would look? What kind of art cars could artists create on race or road cars? What if we combined retro and modern racing styles?
The questions, ideas and outcomes created by this project are limited only by our collective imaginations. In fact, the only limits that are placed on the models created in this range is the limited edition number.
Driven by our own creative division and also working with other designers, artists, brands, drivers and more - the Imagination Project is a collection of interesting, wild and fun limited edition models for motorsport, car and art & design collectors.
Our fourth edition in this range is this incredible Holden VF Commodore Supercar featuring a tribute livery to the Holden Racing Team 2002 Bathurst 1000 Winner which has been replicated in-house by the Authentic Collectables research and development team to fit the VF body shape - and it fits it really well. If you didn't know better, you would be forgiven for thinking it was almost the real thing!
The concept of applying historic liveries to new Supercar body shapes isn't new in the model car industry but it's something we've always enjoyed seeing and thought it was time we should produce a few of our own. Tribute liveries like this are perfect to be included in our Imagination Project range.
While the VF isn't the current shape racing now, we felt that the last Australian Commodore was the right base for this edition.
While we have replicated this livery and modified it to create this tribute model, it's important to acknowledge the designer/s who created the original race livery design. Without their incredible work to create such an iconic livery in the first place, a tribute model like this could never be considered.

In 2024, Ford globally celebrated 60 Years of Mustang.
Since 1964, more than 10 million Mustangs have been sold across seven generations and the iconic sports car has become a phenom of popular culture and media.
Perhaps more significantly for racing fans, the Mustang has also enjoyed a storied motorsport record both internationally and locally. It achieved its first victory in the Tour de France Automobile in its first year on sale and is widely reported to have won its first circuit race anywhere in the world at the hands of Norm Beechey at Calder Park Raceway here in Australia in 1965.
Beechey also won the 1965 Australian Touring Car Championship that year, kicking off a run of five consecutive championships for Mustang with Ian Geoghegan taking out the next four between 1966 to 1969.
Since then, the Mustang has continued to win the hearts and minds of fans while recording significant victories and championships in a variety of racing categories around the world.
With the above in mind, we were honoured when Ford encouraged us to design a special limited edition Gen3 Mustang collectors model to celebrate the milestone.
Designed by Tristan Groves for Authentic Collectables and Ford Performance, Tristan has created a livery which takes the official 60 Years of Mustang logo by Ford and other notable branding elements to create a very unique collectable.
The various striping patterns which make up the base of the livery have been inspired by the history of Mustang and the offical 60 years logo. Those elements, combined with asymmetrical design characteristics, the menacing black pony on the sides, the number 60, Ford branding and red, white, black and deep blue colour scheme form an absolutely jaw-dropping livery.
This 1:18 scale model is scheduled to be produced in high quality die-cast with opening parts which includes the bonnet and both the driver and passenger doors.
A highly detailed racing cockpit can be seen through the molded clear glasshouse, or by opening the doors to examine the interior further. Under the bonnet includes a detailed 5.4-litre Coyote quad overhead cam V8 and engine bay surround. Underneath the model, the undercarriage details the unique Gen3 floorpan.
Comprised of roughly 204 individual metal and plastic parts, with anywhere between 100-200 steps in paint and decoration finishing, including tampo printing where possible, photo etched parts including the bonnet pints, brake rotors and more, this is a high quality, detailed collectors model.
It is scheduled to be produced in an exclusive, one-off limited edition with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity signed by Tristan, presented in its own Authentic Collectables branded protective cardboard folder.
Once this model is sold out, it won't be available again.
